Speaking of Vampires......

Growing up, Saturday mornings meant cartoons. My sister and I had a schedule that went from 9:00AM until noon of all our favorites. After our roster was complete, my father took over the TV and we were entertained by one of two things. Some kind of martial arts movie with the crazy fight scenes and mouths moving and words coming out in a different timing, or "Monster Movie Matinee". This was a local TV show that had the most "B" grade monster movies of all time. These movies had very few special effects but were full of eerie music and ghoulish looking creatures. Normal right? Being about 10 years old however and highly impressionable, and not knowing any better, (ie: TV is make believe) it left a very long scar on my psyche. The vampire movies always left me wondering and for many years after, I slept angling my neck downward so that they could not bite me while asleep. I had a permanent kink in my neck. Fast forward, probably about age 17. My bedroom is upstairs, the bathroom is downstairs. Still regressing to my childhood fears of creatures possibly chasing me, I would fly down the stairs in the middle of the night, go to the bathroom, and fly back up to my bed before anything could "get me". One night, my fears became reality...... Our house is small, you can hear every little noise. I am in the bathroom making number one and that noise must have drowned out my mom getting up to use the bathroom next. I finish up, open the door and there is standing a shadowed silhouette with a white gown on.....

In my own defense, I did make some kind of small noise and start some involuntary spasms. A few jerky movements, that's it. My mother is apologizing realizing what has happened and I am thanking God I just finished going to the bathroom. Thankfully, I have never run into my worst nightmare since now I know how I would have reacted. No screams, no bravely fighting back or running away..... just a small peep and some twitching.
Just call me dinner.

Haha. I remember Saturday morning cartoon time too and my dad usually took over the television in the afternoon to watch sports - he wasn't into the vampire/ghoulish stuff.
As for things that "scare" me -
I won't go into the ocean anymore because when I was younger and we'd gone to Florida there was a shark in the water soooo close by me. So now - forget it!

AND when we first moved here somehow bats would find their way into the house in the early evening. It was a whole process to stop up their entrance but once in a while we still get one in the house and for days afterward I only feel safe in my bedroom with the door closed if I am alone in the house.

thanks for sharing, Karen

"just a small peep and some twitching...Just call me dinner."???

Now, that's funny!

Too quiet for me. I've got to have some MAJOR dramatics in there.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to comment --made my day!

Love this entry... I can so relate. When I was little and we'd watch scary stuff I would run and jump on my bed so the goblins underneath couldn't get me. Today when my husband and I watch "Ghost Hunters" and I need to pee I make him go with me!

One time I got out of work and was held up at gun point-very scary. That night I wasn't sleeping well, all night long-for obvious reasons. I got up in the middle of the night. My Mom knew I wasn't sleeping well and had gone to the living room, sitting on the couch but I had no idea. I walked out of my room and down the hall, she was coming towards me (to check on me) and I about lost it on her. Minds are amazing tools.

My blog has been growing so rapidly that I haven't had time to get over for visits, but I was missing all my blog friends and wanted to take some time to come over and see what everyone was creating and say Hi and invite you over for a visit as well.

Oh, how hilarious! I'm sorry this happened to you, but I love it that you slept with your neck craned. That has to be the scene in a book someday soon!

I never wanted to have my arms or legs dangling off the bed, monsters live down there. I remember we went to the Saturday movies-one ticket for all morning. (I think our moms loved it.) Saw Frankenstein, Werewolf....

Scary things, but not as bad as the food being thrown about. :0

We did old movies when I was a kid. I just love the oldies...and of course, the new ones too. I'm glad to have that appreciate for the silverscreen. I'm a media girl, that's for sure. ...I can do without horror, though! I hate being scared. What lies beneath scared the crap out of me!!
